The Sacristy: a wooden “jewel”

A jewel within a jewel is the beautiful wooden sacristy, crafted in 1712 by master woodworker Francesco Saviotto, based on a design by the acclaimed Domenico Vinaccia. It is a true gem, lovingly preserved within our church.
On one side of the sacristy’s vault are the episcopal coats of arms of several past archbishops of Salerno. The reason why only some of them are present is unknown. On the opposite side, where none were originally placed, the coat of arms of H.E. Mons. Luigi Moretti (archbishop during the most recent restoration works) has been added.
